Lilongwe City Council Demolishes Illegal Business Structures Opposite MRA

The Lilongwe City Council has taken action against illegal business structures opposite the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in Lilongwe by demolishing them.

However, the affected business operators have stated that they will continue selling their goods at the location regardless of the council’s actions.

Representative of the business individuals, Ibrahim Mulaha, claims that the council has been collecting a monthly fee of K8,500 from each vendor, and they are confused by the council’s actions.

In a statement, Lilongwe City Mayor Richard Banda said that the council has been giving notices to vendors to vacate the area as the market place is illegal.

He added that the council has taken this action as part of efforts to combat cholera outbreak due to the unhygienic conditions in the area.
