Residents of Mbayani and Kabula in Blantyre are raising concerns over the poor engineering on the M1 Road near the Kabula Police station.
The road has created a water dike with culverts that divert flash floods and negatively affect local livelihoods.
One resident Foster Matumba stated that he has lost his house to floods caused by the road blocking rainwater from moving properly.
“We reported the danger this road is causing to the authorities, and now I am homeless,” he said.
Getrude Nankhumwa, Member of Parliament for Blantyre Kabula, visited the area to assess the damage caused by the floods and meet with villagers whose properties were affected.
