Rains Render Bridge in Neno District Impassable, Straining Local Villagers

A damaged bridge in Neno district is causing severe difficulties for local villagers, who are now forced to deliver medical supplies to a nearby health center on foot.

The Mtsimukire Bridge at Matope has been rendered impassable by heavy rains, making it impossible for vehicles to cross the river.

As a result, villagers like Amosi Salim have been forced to take on the task of delivering essential medical consignments to the Matope health center.

Salim has spoken out about the dire nature of the situation and is appealing to the government to take action and rehabilitate the bridge.

The situation has become even direr as last week, a man was washed away on the bridge and a woman was forced to give birth on the banks of the river because she could not reach the other side.

Mark Katsonga Phiri, Member of Parliament for Neno South Constituency, recently said that the council is not capable of maintaining the bridge and has reported the issue to the Ministry of Public Works for action.
