World Vision Malawi Kasungu programmes manager Arnold Tsalayekha has appealed to fellow non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to help government with resources to respond to the cholera outbreak in the country.
He said this on Friday when his organisation donated medical supplies worth K55 million to Chulu Health Centre in the district to complement government’s efforts to contain the outbreak.
“We want to help health facilities prepare for cholera emergencies,” said Tsalayekha.

He said although no case was recorded in the area, there was need to get prepared.
“Largely, our work focuses on mothers and children and our concern is that if these two groups are affected, the whole community will also be affected. That is why we donated the items to empower the health facility,” said Tsalayekha.
Chulu Health Centre in-charge Wedson Kawerama said the supplies will make the facility prepared to fight the outbreak.
The items included examination beds, gowns, gloves, boots and face masks.
Last week, the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and Cholera appealed to well-wishers to assist in responding to the outbreak.
As of Saturday, the country had cumulatively registered 22 523 cholera cases and 809 deaths.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Khumbuze Kandodo Chiponda has advised traditional and bloc leaders to notify healthcare workers about people hiding or preventing cholera patients from seeking medical care
