DODMA moves to alleviate hunger for families in need with council funding

The Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (DoDMA) has started paying out the K6 billion Kwacha to the eight target councils in the country.

DoDMA’s Assistant Public Relations Officer, Chimwemwe Njoloma said the money was given to them by the African Risk Capacity for cash transfers to hunger affected households.

Njoloma said the targeted councils include Nkhotakota, Nkhata Bay, Salima, Karonga, Mzimba, Mzuzu City, Chitipa and Rumphi.

According to Njoloma, the DoDMA department has already reached out to one hundred forty two thousand three hundred thirty five (142, 335) households with ten thousand nine hundred and twenty nine (10, 929) metric tons of relief maize.

Malawi Vulnerability and Assessment Committee (MVAC) said people amounting to 3.8 million in the country are in need of food due to the poor harvest that was caused by climate change.
