Irate people detain vehicle transferring maize from Dedza to Lilongwe

A vehicle transferring bags of maize from Dedza’s Agricultural Development Marketing and Corporation (ADMARC) has been detained by angry community members at Bembeke Trading centre.

Ward Councillor for Bembeke Ward Patrick Chimpikiso, who is also Dedza District Council chairperson, has confirmed the development.

According to Chimpikiso the move was motivated by the fact that there is hunger in the area and are, therefore, not happy with the parastatal’s decision to transfer the maize from the depot to elsewhere.

But, ADMARC’s Head of Human Resource and Administration Ethel Zilirakhasu said the Bembeke depot has 180 metric tonnes of maize and they want to transfer Just 15 metric tonnes to sell to Chinsapo and Lumbadzi respectively.

She said they are discussing with the people at Bembeke to release the vehicle.
