The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has once again endorsed President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as the party’s torchbearer in the forthcoming 2025 Presidential polls.

Speaking at a political rally he held at St Paul’s Primary School in Nkhotakota the past weekend, MCP Director of Youth said the party is strategizing, to have President Lazarus Chakwera contest for second term of office.

According to Chimwendo Banda, the wish of the party is to have President Chakwera on the driving seat, untill 2030.

The first person who endorsed Chakwera’s candidature was Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara during Tambala night gala dinner in Lilongwe.

Her stand attracted backclash with many calling on President Chakwera to discipline her.

Few days later, MCP Vice President for the North Harry Mkandawire also endorsed Chakwera.

Meanwhile, Chakwera is yet to comment on the matter.
