DoDMA provides much-needed aid to flood-affected households in Karonga

Four hundred and seventy three(473) households that were badly affected by floods in Karonga, benefited from Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (DoDMA) whereby a 50-kilogram bag of maize and a 10 meters of plastic sheet was donated to each recipient.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Desk Officer for Karonga, Shepherd Jere urged everyone staying along river banks to relocate to higher grounds in the district.

“It is worrisome that, annually, communities that reside near river banks keep on getting affected by floods despite calls to relocate. We are engaging community leaders to help us by considering allocating land to the victims,” Jere said.

One of the recipients, Williamson Mwamulima who hails from Mweniyumba Village in the district expressed gratitude to DoDMA.

According to Mwamulima, the plastic sheets will go a long way in restoring their damaged houses
