Two handed 13 years for stealing cars in Lilongwe

Two grown up men will spend the next 13 (thirteen) years in prison doing hard time after they were found guilty of robbery of motor vehicles in the capital Lilongwe.

Senior Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza handed the sentence to Wilson Chipiliro Witika and John Mkumpha following their arrest last year.

In December last year police embarked on hunting people who were poisoning taxi drivers and stealing their cars. The two were among other four suspects who were arrested on the same.

The police managed to recover 11 vehicles stolen from different districts from the operation.

State prosecutor Dalireni Kalunguluka said that the two were also sentenced to 14 years imprisonment in Blantyre, meaning they have 27 years to serve.

Witika hails from Traditional Authority (TA) Mwambo in ZOmba District.
