A motorcyclist aged 25 has died in a road accident after hitting an Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) pole that fell across the road because of heavy rainfall in Phalombe.

Phalombe Police public relations officer Jimmy Kapanja identified the deceased as Musaukanaye Mangoni.

According to Kapanja, Mangoni was riding from Mpasa heading towards Nyezerera trading center around 22:00 on January 2, 2023 along the Mpasa-Nyezerera earth road.

Kapanja said the deceased hit the pole which had fallen across the road upon arrival at Tayimu village.

According to police report, Mangoni died on the spot. Head injuries and loss of blood have been determined as primary causes of death

The deceased hailed from Nanseta Village, Traditional Authority Mkhumba in the district.
