Heavy rains have badly affected Mpatsa Primary School in Nsanje district which has led to disruptions of classes for form two and four students.
The Council’s spokesperson, Robert Nayeja said, “It is a big concern that the school is affected by floods each and every year. So as of now, communities and traditional leaders are still discussing how best it can be rescued from such occurrences”.
“The issue was also raised at one of the District Executive Committee (DEC) meetings where our development partner, KFW, through education fund project pledged to construct additional classroom blocks at the institution,” said Nayeja.
According to Nayeja, members in consultation with the communities were of the view that the new structures be constructed at an upland area which will necessitate the movement of the school upland.
Learners at the school have been struggling to access education as a result following a heavy down pour in Tengani area where the school is located.
