Kasungu registers decrease in HIV cases

The World Vision Malawi and Kasungu District Council were yesterday commemorating World Aids Day, which globally falls on 1 December every year.

Following statistics reports, about 12, 960 people are HIV positive out of 917, 600, representing 2.4 percent of the total population in the district.

According to Gladys Singano, Principal Nutrition HIV and Aids Officer at Kasungu District Council, the percentage has decreased because two years ago, it was at 4 percent.

Singano further accredited the decrease to, among others, obedience to antiretroviral therapy which reduces transmission of the virus.

The statistics are contained in the 2022 Malawi Population-based HIV Impact Assessment report.
