Metrological Services Department warns of flush floods in Chikwawa, Nsanje

As the country continues to receive heavy rains, the Department of Climate Change and Metrological Services has warned of flash floods, particularly in Chikwawa, Nsanje and other Lakeshore areas.

A statement from the department attributes the development to expected heavy rains of more than 100mm between Wednesday and Thursday 21st and 22nd December 2022.

The general public has since been advised to plan travel properly to avoid crossing fast-flowing and flooded rivers.

“It is advisable to plan travels properly and avoid crossing fast flowing and flooded waters. The public is further advised to avoid resting and packing under trees and wet fences. Torrential rains can weaken some structures; therefore, the public is reminded to keep on inspecting houses and other buildings for possible damages to avoid walls collapsing on people,” reads the statement in part.
