Why is every politician being honoured?

Dear judge Mbadwa,

My lord, though you have not yet received your intermarriage champion award, I was wondering whether you are surprised why some of the awardees are the people you least expected to be recognised.

My lord, when the Nyasaland National Wedding Planning Committee decided to honour the first president of Nyasaland KaiBanda for championing intermarriages, I applauded the planning committee for the recognition.

Truth be told; regardless of the not so pleasant human rights record under his watch, KaiBanda set the pace for development that has encouraged intermarriages.

He initiated various infrastructural developments to support the institution of intermarriage.

Most of the leaders, who succeeded him, even when the political terrain was not as rough as it were during the one party era, pale in comparison to the achievements of KaiBanda.

They have literally failed to replicate the standards of KaiBanda.

I was, therefore, confused, my lord, to see the Planning Committee recognising every Jim and Jack because at one time they assumed the highest office.

My lord, after KaiBanda’s recognition, we have seen the Planning committee honouring Lazaro, Amayi, Chairman, Mapuya, and Sauli. Nothing wrong in honouring these eminent people, but what have they achieved?

Some of the people who have been honoured are responsible for the mess the country has found itself in.

These are the people who propagated a culture of laziness, a custom of handouts and a routine of siphoning money from government coffers as well as nepotism and incessant corruption.

If people failed in their jobs why should they be given credit?

My lord, we shouldn’t be honouring mediocrity at all and you know these are the architects of the predicament Nyasaland is currently in.

We might as well honour every Nyasa citizen for surviving under tough economic environments at the time the leadership had deliberately chosen to promote selfish interests.

My lord, I don’t have problems with honouring the likes of Napolo Locust whose immense investments demonstrate that he cares about forging a future for Nyasaland.

There are several hardworking citizens who have achieved remarkable feats, too, without using taxpayers’ money who deserve those honours.

My lord, it is my submission that if the wedding planning committee wants to bring national unity then it should let Timoteo Cloud and his National Unity ministry give medals to these politicians.

My question is what are we trying to achieve? Tell me that a noble idea has been hijacked by some politicians otherwise I don’t understand it.

Regards,

John Citizen.
