Concerned citizens in Machinga have expressed their worry over delays by the district’s main ADMARC depots to start selling maize.
According to Chisomo Chapita, a citizen of Machinga, people are walking long distances trying to access maize in other areas.
“We are walking long distances, approximately 40 kilometres, others 55 kilometres to access maize from other ADMARC depots,” she said.
An official from Machinga main Admarc depot has confirmed the development saying currently they have almost 2,099 metric tonnes of maize, but they are waiting for direction from the government, before they begin selling.
According to government, they directed that starting from December 1st, ADMARC will begin sales hence this is contrary to what they said.
