17 year old boy loses leg after being shot by a forest guard in Dedza

A 17 year old boy has his leg amputated after he was allegedly shot by a forest guard in Dedza district.

The boy, Lemerani Tsogolani is currently admitted at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe, after being shot around Chongoni Timber Plantations in Dedza.

According to the boy’s uncle, Chitsanzo Bisalomu, Tsogolani was hired by some people to collect tree logs using an ox cart.

Whilst executing his duties, they met forest guards and the people who hired Tsogolani escaped leaving him alone that’s when he got shot on the leg.

But Assistant Plantation Manager for Chongoni, Samuel Goneta, insists that the villagers invaded the forest to steal tree logs.

“They were confronted by forest guards and one of the villagers was hit by an ox -cart on his leg while running away,” he said.
