Rumphi district commissioner Emmanuel Bulukutu has expressed concern over the theft of materials for different projects in the district.
He expressed the sentiments on Saturday during a meeting at Rumphi Police Station.
Bulukutu said there was need for police officers and community policing structures to work together in ensuring that construction materials are fully used on projects.
He said: “All of us need to help the police deal with such crime. For example, the police operating on public tip-offs intercepted 70 bags of cement stolen from a construction site.

“I also thank the law enforcers for working tirelessly in intercepting illegal immigrants who can be a security threat to our nation.”
Rumphi Police station officer Aggrey Khonje said the district has 136 police officers against a population of over 230 000 people.
“This is not enough. Therefore, the station relies on community policing structures to fight crime in the district,” he said.
Rumphi first grade magistrate Cuthbert Phiri warned people in the district against mob justice.
He also said the law does not recognise witchcraft, as such, people found guilty of killing others over witchcraft allegations will be prosecuted.
“How do you even know that someone has been bewitched? Are you also not guilty of practising witchcraft? If you are convinced that someone has been bewitched, why don’t you just bewitch them also and we will never know,” he said.
