DPP Councillor Chimbanga asks Chakwera to release Joshua Chisa Mbele

Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has asked President Lazarus Chakwera to unconditionally release social media influencer Joshua Chisa Mbele.

Chisa Mbele was arrested yesterday together with Levi Luwembe, and 31 other protesters over the anti-Chakwera demonstrations organized in Lilongwe.

The protesters refused to hand over the petition to the office of the District Commissioner and wanted to present the petition direct to President Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace.

Writing on his official facebook page Chimbanga said: “I am calling on His Excellency President Chakwera for the unconditional release of Activist Joshua Chisa Mbele. Political arrests are a thing of the past. I am also calling on the Dean of the Diplomatic call to condemn the MCP government for the same. Malawi is a democratic State.”

Meanwhile, Chakwera is yet to comment on the matter.
