Two nabbed for transpassing, damaging tombstone

Police in Mponela, Dowa are keeping in custody two men for transpassing into a graveyard and damaging a tombstone.

Sergeant Macpatson Msadala, Public Relations Officer Mponela Police Station said the duo has been identified as Richard Banda, 41 and Stonex Kaziputa, 33 both from Mthuzi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kayembe in Dowa.

The incident occurred on October 12,2022 at around 9 oclock at Mthuzi Village graveyard.

“It is reported that on that day, the reporter who is also uncle to the suspects was at his garden watering his tobacco nursery seeds.

“Whilst there, he received message that the duo went to the graveyard and damaged the tombstone of their late mother and took it to the reporter’s house using an oxcart without any valid reason.

“Seeing this, their uncle called the village head and other members of the village who advised him to report the matter to police.”
Following the report, police arrested the suspects.

The two will appear before court soon to answer criminal transpass and malicious damage charges.
