Form 2 student takes own life after failing JCE

A 19-year-old form 2 student at Ng’ombechinda Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba District has committed suicide by hanging after failing Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) Examinations.

The Student, Elizabeth Maunda was found dead in a bush at Bisa Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Khosolo in Mzimba.

Spokesperson for Jenda Police Station, Sergeant, Alfred Lucio confirmed the incident saying that on Friday Elizabeth’s father went to collect his daughter’s results from her school.

He said that when the father came back, he informed her daughter that she had failed the examinations.

Lucio said that Elizabeth was saddened with the news complaining that she would be laughed at by community members.

“At around 4 pm, the deceased left home to a nearby bush as if she was going to fetch firewood and never returned. Later, she was found hanging under a tree,” he added.

The Spokesperson said Police officers together with medical personnel from Khosolo Health Centre visited the scene where a postmortem was conducted and proved that death was due to suffocation.

Maunda hailed from Bisa Village under TA Khosolo in the district.
