Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nancy Tembo has announced that President Lazarus Chakwera will travel to New York next week to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Chakwera will be attending the assembly for the first time since he assumed office in 2020.
Among other things, Tembo said, Chakwera will strike a number of deals with the United States government on energy investments and market for agricultural products.
She made the announcement during a media briefing in the capital Lilongwe.
Chakwera’s trip to US comes at a time the country is experiencing the worse blackouts ever and fuel crisis.
