The incident is said to have taken place in Ntwashu village, Ngqamakhwe. According to SAPS Eastern Cape, the two boys were fighting on grazing land. During the fight, one of the boys reached for a nearby sharp object and stabbed the 10-year-old.

The boy died from his stab wound in hospital. For the time being, police are investigating a murder case and have not made any arrests. “According to the report the two young boys were in a grazing land looking after the livestock when they had a fight which resulted to one of them stabbing the other who later died in the hospital. The circumstances surrounding the incident form part of the investigation. The police are investigating a murder case no arrest made at this stage,” said SAPS spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education has said that a number of measures are being developed to educate young boys about the consequences of engaging in illegal activities, including the possibility of incarceration.

“We are hosting children who are convicted prisoners, who serve their time now are rehabilitated to come and talk to them so that they can understand that crime does not pay, once people get criminal record it will be impossible for them to get an appointment in the near future,” said department spokesperson Mali Mtima.

Meanwhile, the province is dealing with school violence. A high school student from Arthur Mfebe High School in Cofimvaba was killed by another student inside the Msebe Senior Secondary School’s grounds.

According to reports, the tragically hacked learner was apparently involved in a factional dispute that began in a nearby neighborhood.
