A man has died after a boat he and nine other fishermen were sailing crashed into a rock and capsized in heavy Mwera winds on Lake Malawi this morning.

Officer-in-Charge for Likoma Police Station, Hannah Mponda, has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Mponda, the fishermen were returning from a night out fishing.

Mponda said postmortem shows that the deceased, Evans Banda, died due to suffocation.

One other person has been injured but was treated as an out-patient.
