Form 1 Student arrested for murder in Lilongwe

A form 1 student at Mitundu CDSS has been arrested for allegedly killing a 20-year year, accusing him of falling in love with his sister, who is aged 16.

Sub Inspector Foster Benjamin, Deputy PRO, Lilongwe Police Station said the suspect is identified as Godfrey Laiton and the deceased as Nesto Masula, both aged 20.

Benjamin explained the murder happened on Sunday night at Nakuyele Village Traditional Authority Chadza.

The suspect was moving around the village when he bumped into his sister and her boyfriend Masula.

Laiton confronted Masula and challenged him to stop hanging around with his sister since she was young and in Standard 8.

Masula punched Laiton and in retaliation, Laiton picked a sharp object and stabbed his opponent in the abdomen.

The suspect immediately vanished, leaving his victim in a pool of blood, which led to his eventual death.

Bunda Police Unit officers took the body to Mitundu Community Hospital where death was certified as a result of abdominal bleeding secondary to stab wounds.

The suspect has turned himself in to the police where he has been charged with murder.

He comes from Nakuyele Village Traditional Authority Chadza in Lilongwe, where the deceased also came from.
