Police in Lilongwe are investigating ghost Facebook accounts allegedly belonging to some members of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) media team which have been used to “defame characters/cyber harassment”.

According to a court search warrant we have seen, the ghost accounts, apart from character assassination, have been used to provide misleading information about Malawi Government dealings.

The ghost Facebook accounts under investigation include Martha Kayuni, Kholomana Mankhwala, Kwathu Kunyanja, Catherine Banda, Alex Botha, Lizzie Nyasulu and Christina Mataya.

Meanwhile, Area 3 police summoned one of the MCP media team members Kondwani Mdooko for questioning as one of the accounts is allegedly connected to his number according to an inside source.

When our team arrived at Area 3 police station, members of the media team including Mdooko were seen at the carpark of the police station.

Lilongwe Police Spokesperson Hastings Chigalu has asked for more time before making a comment.
