Doctors Unable To Re-attach A Mans P*nis After Chopping It Off

Doctors at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital were unable to re-attach the penis of a man who chopped it off himself with a kitchen knife following a disagreement with his wife.

According to the Star, the medics said it was impossible to reattach the organ, which was chopped off at the base because it was presented 16 hours late and was poorly preserved.

Dr. Dennis Kipkemoi, a surgeon at MTRH who documented the case, said the 48- year old man suffers from Schizophrenia. He said although people with psychological problems sometimes try to harm themselves, self-inflicted penile amputation is extremely rare

The man, who stayed in the hospital for seven days undergoing stump fashioning, did not get a total penile reconstruction. the doctors said if the man allows, they could create a permanent opening into the urethra through an incision between the scrotum and the anus, through which he can pee.

The other medics involved are Akello Abilaa from Egerton University’s department of medical physiology and Mburu Nditika, and Mugalo Lumadede of Moi University’s department of surgery and anesthesiology.
