Ruto’s message to Uhuru after being declared Kenya’s 5th President

President-elect William Ruto has recognised outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta in his acceptance speech after being declared the winner of the August 9th presidential election.

Despite their bitter fallout in the run-up to the General Election, Ruto appreciated the 10 years he worked with President Kenyatta noting that he would continue with the legacy they built together with Uhuru.

“I want to acknowledge my boss the president of the Republic of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta who has worked with me over the last 10 years in various forms,” said Ruto at the Bomas of Kenya.

“I want to commit to the people of Kenya that I will build on the foundation that president Kenyatta and I put together and take this country to the next level.”

Ruto emerged the winner in the presidential poll after garnering 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 per cent of the total votes cast.

His main rival Raila Odinga of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition party got 6,942,930 votes representing 48 percent of the votes cast.
