The Agricultural Commercialisation (Agcom) project has donated K36 million to Chumachilimunthaka Farmers Association of Sharpe Valley Extension Planning Area in Ntcheu District.

Speaking on Saturday after receiving the cheque, the association’s chairperson Brighton Gama said the support came at the right time.

He said the association, which grows and buys soya beans along the Bwanje Valley, is facing challenges in transporting and storing the commodity.

“We plan to buy a lorry and construct a warehouse,” he said.

Ntcheu district director of agriculture, environment and natural resources Edward Katunga urged the association to use the money for its intended purpose.

“The district has four cooperatives which were awarded matching grants under the project. Chumachilimunthaka is the second after Bawi Farmers Association,” he said.

Meanwhile, group village head Mkumphira assured stakeholders that they will monitor developments regarding the construction of the warehouse and the procurement of the lorry.

Chumachilimthaka Farmers Association, which has a membership of 532, started in 2007.

Agcom project is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry with support from the World Bank’s International Development Association credit of $95 million.
