Man Dies In Mangochi Road Accident

A 34-year-old man identified as Clement Masoambeta from Mapira village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi District has died after the motor cycle he was riding hit an oncoming motor vehicle.

According to Mangochi Police Deputy Spokesperson Vincent Kapichi, the accident occurred in the evening of August 11, 2022

“The accident which involved a motor vehicle registration number BJ 1076 Isuzu lorry was being driven by Mr Dawa Mala, 52, from Kalonga village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi District from the direction of Monkey Bay heading towards Mangochi Boma and a motor cycle registration number KU 9464 Hingolin ridden by the deceased was coming from the direction of Mangochi heading towards Monkey Bay,” said Kapichi.

Kapichi added that upon arrival at Samama area, Mala tried to overtake another motor vehicle and in the process he hit an oncoming motor cycle.

He further said following the impact, Masoambeta sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures on the right arm as well as the right leg and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mangochi District Hospital.

In the mean time, Mala is in Police custody waiting for court proceedings, according to Kapichi.

Meanwhile, police in the district are appealing to all road users to always follow road safety measures to avoid such accidents.
