One dies in Kasungu road accident

A 35 year-old woman identified as Maria Phiri has died after being hit by a motor vehicle at Mponda village along Lilongwe – Kasungu M1 road.

The accident occurred on August 6, 2022.

The accident which involved Nissan Tilda, registration number RU 9900 was being driven by Elizabeth Hara from the direction of Lilongwe heading towards Kasungu boma.

Upon arrival at Mponda village, due to overspeeding, Hara lost control of the vehicle which swerved to the far right of the road and hit a female pedestrian who was standing by the road side.

Following the impact Phiri sustained severe head injuries and died whilst receiving treatment at Kasungu District Hospital.

Police in the district are advising road users to adhere to all road traffic rules and regulations to avoid occurrence of preventable road accidents.

Maria Phiri hailed from Mponda village, Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu.
