Communities in Mangochi have commended the district council for constructing a clinic, teacher development centre, school blocks and bridges under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (Gesd) Project.
Speaking on Thursday when National Local Government Finance Committee and Mangochi District Council officials toured the projects, Sainati Milambo from group village head Sokole in Traditional Authority (T/A)Namkumba said an under-five clinic has been constructed in the area under the project.

“Women used to travel a long distance to Nankumba Health Centre for under-five services,” he said.
Nkope Primary School deputy head teacher Halford Mbinda hailed the construction of a teacher development centre in the area.
He said the structure will accommodate teachers from Nkope Zone during meetings.
Mangochi District Council director of planning and development Newton Munthali attributed the successful implementation of the first phase of the Gesd projects to coordination between community leaders and the council.
“The council had nine projects under Gesd and we have finished almost all projects except a 20-metre Dzewe Bridge that connects Nkhalango and Mputa villages,” he said.
Government has embarked on a five-year Gesd Project with funding from the World Bank to strengthen local authorities’ institutional performance, responsiveness to citizens and management of resources.
