Namiwa, Friends To Hold Fresh Demos Against Chakwera

Pressure is still mounting on President Lazarus Chakwera as Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have announced a fresh wave of demonstrations to force him to address challenges they raised in their previous protests.

The CSOs made the announcement this morning saying they are intending to go to the streets on August 18, 2022 as a way of forcing Chakwera to respond to petitions the grouping had sent him earlier.

According to Action Against Impunity, lead organizers of the demonstrations, they believe that, Chakwera never received their petitions, according to them the District Commissioners who received the petitions did not forward them to Chakwera.

The CSOs have since said that this time around they will deliver the petitions straight to state residences.

Reading a statement at a press briefing held in Lilongwe, Sylvester Namiwa of Center for Democracy and Economic Initiatives – CDEDI, has pointed out that the President has been silent since the grouping started delivering petitions.

Demands are that Chakwera must deliver his campaign promise of trimming presidential powers and to cushion Malawians in the middle of a financial crisis.
