The Ministry of Local Government has announced that the burial ceremonies for two Mchinji chiefs, Senior Chief Mkanda and Traditional Authority Nyoka, who died on Friday and Saturday last week, will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Anjoya Mwanza, said the body of the late Senior Chief Mkanda will be laid to rest at his Mchemani Headquarters in Mkanda tomorrow, Tuesday while the burial ceremony of the late T/A Nyoka will take place on Wednesday at his Limbawendaba Headquarters in the border district.

She says the Minister of Local Government, Professor Blessings Chinsinga, is expected to attend both ceremonies.

Senior Chief Mkanda, aged 92, died Friday night while T/A Nyoka, 79, died Saturday morning.
