CDEDI To Proceed With Demos

Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives CDEDI has said they will not be intimidated with the abduction of their leader Sylvester Namiwa and their demonstrations will proceed as planned.

Yesterday, the human rights grouping via its Facebook page announced that Namiwa, CDEDI’s Executive Director was taken by unknown people in Lilongwe around Area 3.

Namiwa was abducted 45 minutes after he finished addressing members of the media updating them on today’s demonstrations against president Lazarus Chakwera.

According to the reports, Namiwa’s location remains unknown and the matter has been reported to the Malawi Police which they instituted an impromptu investigations over the matter.

But the officials of CDEDI said they continue with the demonstrations to protest against impunity.

Initially, the sole purpose of the protests was to force president Chakwera to scrap off presidential immunity and trim presidential powers as he promised during 2020 campaign.
