People of traditional authorities Tsabango and Chadza in Lilongwe District are excited with the construction of a bridge on Nanjiri River, connecting Ng’ombe and Mphonde villages in Lilongwe Central and Msozi North constituencies respectively.
Speaking when Lilongwe District Council handed over the project, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Sosten Gwengwe, who is also Msozi North legislator, said the bridge will ease mobility of the people from the two areas.
Gwengwe: Good road network
enhances development
“Good road network enhances socioeconomic development of an area. This bridge will now give people access to a lot of social services like schools, hospitals and agricultural markets,”he said.
Agreeing with Gwengwe, Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe, who is also Lilongwe Central legislator, said people in the constituencies bordering the area should expect more joint developmental activities.
He has since urged communities surrounding the bridge to enhance protection of the Nanjiri river catchment area.
Senior Chief Tsabango thanked the legislators for their unity in ensuring that services benefiting the two areas are jointly done.
The K59 million bridge has been made possible through the Governance for Enabled Service Delivery project implemented through the National Local Government Finance Committee, with funding from the World Bank.
