Power Market Limited (PML) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rosemary Mkandawire has obtained an injunction at the High Court in Lilongwe restraining the office of Ombudsman from conducting a public inquiry into alleged irregular recruitment of PML top management, including the CEO.
Judge Yakuwawa Msiska in a ruling dated July 22 2022, which Nation Online has seen, has directed that the inquiry be pended until the court hears the defendants notice to apply for judicial review on August 1 2022.
Ombudsman Grace Malera was scheduled to hold a public inquiry with representatives of Escom Staff Union (ESU) and Comptroller of Statutory Corporation from July 26 2022 in Blantyre.
In its complaint to the Ombudsman, dated June 11 2021, ESU alleged that the PML recruitment process of all its top management positions, including that of directors, was irregular and unprocedural.
Reads the letter in part: “No any interviews were conducted for these positions, but rather the positions were given due to political affiliation.”
