We cannot agree more with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the need for governance and law enforcing agencies coordinating and working together if they are to get the best out of their efforts and resources at their disposal.

Indeed there is no need for the office of the DPP and the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), for example, to work as if they are in competition. As the DPP has pointed out in a letter we have seen copied to several government agencies, which is the basis for one of the stories in this paper, all such agencies work for the same government and for the same cause. This is to serve Malawians better and make them get value for their money.

This is more so after the agencies have made the need for coordination absolutely clear to all and sundry in their previous meetings. Such consultations and sharing of notes would not only speed up investigations and prosecutions but also help reduce pressure on the small resource envelope against the many competing ends.

Already there is a backlog of cases the investigating and prosecuting agencies have to deal with and so they cannot afford any more malfunctions in the system due to administrative lapses.
