President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Merlyne Nachulu Yolamu as new Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service (MPS).

Yolamu replaces Dr. George Kainja who was fired a month ago for allegedly being involved in corruption scandal involving well-known businessman Zuneth Sattar.

Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Collen Zamba has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi.

According to Zamba, the appointment is subject to confirmation by the National Assembly.
