Chinese national Susu denied bail, sent to Maula Prison

Senior Resident Magistrate, James Mankhwazi, on Monday denied bail to Chinese Lu Ke popularly known as Susu who is accused of shooting demeaning videos of Malawian children.

The Chinese national has since been remanded to Maula Prison awaiting the expiry of the 15 days of investigations prayed for by the state.

In his ruling, Nkhwazi said the State has successfully demonstrated that Susu is a flight risk, has no definitive place of stay and could interfere with witnesses.

Susu has been charged with five counts.

The Chinese national was extradited to Malawi from Zambia over the weekend after escaping in June 2022 following revelations that he was using children to make racist remarks in his video’s which were being sold online.

The case has since been adjourned to August 3, 2022.
