The Farmers Union of Malawi (FUM) has called on ADMARC to start purchasing maize from farmers, saying failure to start purchasing the grain soon will give an opportunity to vendors to continue exploiting farmers.
The remarks come as reports have indicated that vendors have flooded the market, purchasing maize from farmers.
FUM President Frighton Njolomole has underlined the need for authorities to intervene, saying the development is putting the country at a risk of hunger.
On several occasions, ADMARC has been failing to indicate the exact date on when it will start purchasing maize from farmers, adding that it is still waiting for moisture content to drop.
