The outgoing council chairperson Letani Mthaphwi wished the new leadership well and pledged his support if needed.

Salima district commissioner Grace Chirwa also pledged to work with the new leadership.

“As a secretariat, we will support you in implementing projects in the district,” she said.

One of the residents, Dalitso Gome warned the new leadership against politicising development.

“They should not favour some constituencies, but share the cake equally,” he said.

Another resident Shyreen Ngongonda said she expected the new council to work with local structures to champion the rights of girls.
