Mutharika to contest again as President in 2025

Former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has said will be a torchbearer of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the forthcoming 2025 Presidential polls.

Mutharika revealed this in an interview with Voice of America (VOA) on Saturday.

In the interview, Mutharika wondered why the issue linking him the murder of a 22-year-old person with albinism, Macdonald Masambuka is resurfacing now after some sections of society have asked him to contest again in 2025.

Mutharika described the allegations as propaganda by the Tonse Alliance administration to stop him from contesting in the upcoming Presidential election in 2025.

The former President hinted that he won the 2019 election, free and fair, only to be removed through a judicial coup.

“The whole thing was a judicial conspiracy, a judicial coup d’etat, I was driven out of government after one year, I had four years to go, and some people feel that I should complete my term: the projects I started (which the present government is failing to do), they’re urging me to contest in 2025, I have taken everything under advisement, I’ll respond at the right time”, said Mutharika who will be 85 in 2025.

Two months ago, some DPP top officials led by regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha endorsed Mutharika as the party’s torchbearer in the 2025 general election.

The top blasts claimed that the move will end the ongoing infighting in the party.
