National Director for World Vision Malawi, Francis Dube has emphasizes the need to protect young girls from getting infected from HIV and AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections in the country.
She made the remarks at the launch of a three-day event of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) learning forum in Blantyre.
She added that the forum is aiming at eradicating girl’s susceptibility to HIV infection and other infections that are transmitted through sexually.
“The aim is to try and eradicate the vulnerability of HIV infections most especially to girls and young women because they are at risk,” said Dube.
According to Maria Chavula Phiri, Peer Ambassador for AGYW said the conference will help with knowledge and direction to teach their fellow young girls in the clubs when they go back.
“We will share knowledge with others after this conference”, Chavula Phiri said.
She then asked government to introduce programmes that will empower girls and young women economically.
AGYW has reached to over 90,000 girls in Malawi and it is funded by Global Fund.
