Artists who took to the stage during the show that lasted for over eight hours including Anthony Makondesa, Moda Fumulani and KhoziMasimbe lauded Banda’s contribution in promoting local music.
Said Piksy: “Jai is one of the biggest music promoters in the country. When we talk of Malawi music, you cannot go without mentioning Mr Entertainer. I want to thank Team Entertainers for the support it renders to local artists.
“I last performed here at Motel Paradise in 2014 and this is my second show. Thank you Jai.”
On his part Black Missionaries Band leader Anjiru Fumulani said: “It’s time to honour and celebrate Jai and the Team Entertainers while he is alive. He has contributed a lot in the music industry. We talk of great artists like Elvison Matafale, Lucius Banda, they have all benefitted from Jai’s benevolence.”
Reacting to musicians’ sentiments, Jai said he felt honoured for the recognition. He promised arts and music fans to continue working with local artists.
He said: “I am humbled. But people should expect more fireworks this year because I am bringing two renowned international artists.”
The show itself did not disappoint. The revelers who filled the Motel Paradise arena as early as 8pm were treated to a good dose of entertaining performances. The artists who took turns on the stage oozed life and energy throughout.
The Chileka brigade comprising Moda Fumulani, Yanjanani Chumbu, Masimbe, Makondetsa and the Black Missionaries Band as per traditional brought their reggae beat on the platform. The patronage as usual responded warmly to their performances.
Man of the moment Piksy rode on his trending hit Anana. He almost had the audience wound up to his magic during his time on stage. When he bowed out with his popular song Uncle Short One, people were still asking for more.
