Vice-President of Malawi and UTM Party president, I would realise that I and my Malawi Congress Party (MCP) counterpart Lazarus Chakwera, who is also President of Malawi, lost the plot on the political alliance when we decided to keep the contents under wraps.
Knowing that the agreement was supposed to protect the interests of Malawians, there was absolutely no need to keep the contents under wraps because coming out now, two years later, portrays the image that it is because the deal appears to be falling by the wayside.
Chilima opened up on the alliance and 2025 race
Oh yes, if I were Biyeni, I would also realise that the first step would have been to take it up with Chakwera other than seeking public sympathy because that won’t help much.
How I wish I were SKC, because I would swallow my pride and admit that while I was key to the alliance’s presidential election victory, I lost the plot, which does not reflect my claim as mfana oganiza bho (a sharp mind).
For someone who is considered sharp, I would also realise that while the agreement raises moral and ethical issues, the harsh reality is that it is not legally-binding as whatever is agreed outside the Constitution does not have any impact legally. That is if only I were SKC, but I‘m not the Veep.
