MW2063 constant reviews to rectify challenges—NPC

The National Planning Commission (NPC) says it will offer constant and comprehensive reviews of the Malawi 2063 (MW2063) First-Year Implementation Plan to ensure overall success of the long-term strategy.

NPC director general Thomas Chataghalala Munthali said this on Wednesday during a virtual workshop for editors and reporters on MW2063 First 10-Year Implementation Plan, Covid-19 Social Economic Recovery Plan and the Malawi Secondary Cities Plan.

The secondary cities plan was recently launched as part of the actualisation process of MW2063.

Munthali: We will have continuous engagements

Munthali said there will be constant reviews of the plan to check progress and ensure that areas which are failing are rectified.

“We will check on the areas that are derailing progress and we will ensure that these are worked on to make sure that progress is being made instead of going back to the drawing board,” he said.

Munthali said they will also be continuous engagements with several stakeholders to ensure that MW2063 is owned by everyone to ensure its long- term success.

His sentiments were also echoed by NPC director of development planning Grace Kumchulesi emphasised that periodic reviews of the plan will iron out all the obstacles that affect progress.

She said constant reviews will offer checks and balances that will ensure smooth implementation of the vision.

“The reviews will help us identify any weaknesses or challenges that need to be addressed,” said Kumchulesi.

The two called for responsible reporting on MW2063 and to raise awareness to enable the public to be in a position to know what the plan entails.

Ministry of Information and Digitisation director of information Chikumbutso Mtumodzi said the government will continue supporting implementation of the plan so that it achieves its intended results.

United Nations Development Programme resident representative Shigeki Komatsubara expressed commitment to supporting the plan to ensure that Malawi is an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation by 2063.

MW2063 is built on three pillars of agriculture and commercialisation, industrialisation and urbanisation and science and technology
