Accountant General Jean Munyenyembe Speaks On Leaving The Country Without Notifying OPC

The Accountant General Jean Munyenyembe has clarified that she took some days off as part of her annual holiday to attend to personal business in Kenya.

She was reacting a story carried out by one of the country’s media house Nation Publications Limited, which indicated that she left the country without taking leave of the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC).

According to the Nation, before publishing the story, Munyenyembe was accorded a right of reply but did not respond despite the WhatsApp messages showing that she had read them. She only reached out after publication.

Speaking through spokesperson for Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Taurai Banda, Munyenyembe said she had followed the necessary procedure before leaving office.

Said Banda: “I was on personal leave for five days from 21st to 27th June 2022 which was duly approved by my immediate boss”.
