DPP MPs obtain injunction against Chaponda’s appointment as leader of opposition

Some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Members of Parliament have obtained an injunction against the appointment of former Minister of Agriculture Dr. George Chaponda as leader of opposition replacing Kondwani Nankhumwa.

The development comes barely hours after Speaker of parliament Catherine Gotani Hara recognized the appointment of Chaponda and invited him to the business committee slatted for this coming Wednesday at Parliament building in the capital Lilongwe.

In a court document seen by this publication, the MPs who are 22 in total argue that the appointment of Chaponda was irregular.

High Court Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda has since ordered Chaponda to stop acting as Leader of opposition.
