Save The Children Asks Traditional Leaders To Report Cases Of Child Abuse

Kim Koch, Country Director for Save the Children has asked the traditional leaders in the country to report cases of child abuse to authorities whenever their rights have been violated.

Koch made the remarks at Crossroads hotel in Lilongwe during the official launch of the Day of the African Child.

She said the day represents the opportunity for the people to renew on going commitments towards improving the plight of children on the continent and lift up their voices.

“We must work together and we must work fast. Business as usual is not sufficient. If we truly mean to realize children’s rights as provided for in the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and the UNCRC we must accelerate and consolidate our efforts,” Koch explained.

However panel discussion for bringing together traditional leaders, Judiciary, children and other stakeholders was organized with the aim of eliminating harmful practices affecting children.

Deputy Minister of Gender was the guest of honour at the function.
