Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also leader of opposition in Parliament has blasted President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for venting his anger on the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and it’s Director General, Martha Chizuma.
In his address on Tuesday night, President Chakwera expressed dissatisfaction with what he called a substandard ACB report which he claimed, has glaring information gaps.
Chakwera also said he was displeased to learn that Chizuma had shared copies of the report with heads of the judiciary and legislature respectively.
But in a statement yesterday, Nankhumwa said the sanctioning and demanding of the investigation report was not legally backed.
“I am personally suspicious over this ‘Presidential anger’ because this is the second time that President Chakwera has publicly shown his displeasure with Ms. Martha Chizuma over her conduct on the issue of Sattar. Is it possible that the President is deliberately creating an alibi, and setting the State for the removal of Ms. Martha Chizuma?
“As Leader of Opposition in Parliament, I wish to urge the President to step back from this issue now that he has done what he needed to do, and let the Bureau do its work professionally according to the law,” said Nankhumwa.
Meanwhile, Nankhumwa has saluted Chizuma for sharing the report with the Chief Justice and Speaker of Parliament.
